First Impressions
Of Food:
Let's see, what have I eaten so far? An apple, Pizza Hut, KFC, French Fries.... I love Indonesian food!! Oh and Steve has had McDonalds.
Don't worry, we are eating actual Indonesian food too....rice and noodles. There is more to it than that but I can't always identify everything I'm eating (and sometimes I'm afraid to know). Nothing too spicy yet, which my digestive system is very thankful for.
Of People:
Very nice!! Super friendly. Of course it helps that we stand out like sore thumbs. It is very common to hear: "Hey Mister! How are you? What is your name? I am ___!" Or "Hey Miss!!" That is all the english a lot of people know, but they love using it. Everyone gets a kick out of how tall Steve is. The funniest so far has been one man on a motorcycle who yelled as he was driving by. "Hello Mister!! How are youuuuuuu?" ...yesterday someone said to me, "Hello Miss.... Britney Spears". I don't know what to make of that.
Of Media:
Ladies, you know how we are always going for the golden glow? That nice, dark, tanned skin? You wouldn't believe all the skin-whitening products they have here! I have seen such funny commercials about Indonesian women wanting a guy, and then finally having him pursue her, once her skin lightened 5-7 shades. I forget all the names but Pond's has a lot of them. "Flawless White" is the only one I remember right now. And they have skin tones -we- are trying to get. I think they would have heart attacks if they saw how we treat our "flawless" complexions. (much like I am shocked at how they treat theirs!)
Of Music:
Some girls were listening to a really popular Indonesian song yesterday, let me try to think of the words... oh yes: "There's going to be one less lonely girl."
Indonesia has Beiber Fever. Justin Beiber that is. Tsk.
If you have any questions let me know!!! Also tell me what's going in in Canada!! Don't be an email or facebook stranger. I don't want to have to do 9 months of social catch-up when I get back.
And if you haven't yet, join our facebook group: Steve and Emily Boss in Indonesia

We Are HERE!!
Well! It turns out (as you can see) that I didn't end up posting something interesting.... until now.
We arrived safely and half feeling well in Medan last week Wednesday. I say half feeling well, because half the team (the tall half) felt great, and the other half of the team, (the feminine, cute, brilliant half), threw up all the way from Singapore, up until last week Friday. No, there was no turbulance, and no, I wasn't nervous. It was pretty ridiculous how perfect the conditions were for flying... but I guess my body doesn't like being in the air for that long (which makes me wonder how I will get home)...
BUT, now we are both well and happy!
In Medan we were greeted at the airport by Susan Hoover, who we are going to be living with while we are here--she is our team leader. God definitely felt bad I was so sick, because Susan has a BED in her guest room (a luxury- when we are settled in we will sleep on mats like pretty much everyone else) ANNNNND..... Air Conditioning!!!!!
I passed out for 24 hours (Steve could fill you in on what went on in that time, but goodness knows how long you would have to wait for -that- online update)... and then on Thursday we left
Medan for Pontianak. (brief explanation in case you don't know: Indonesia is made up of many many many islands. Medan is on a northwest island called Sumatra, Pontianak is on another island called Kalimantan).
Guess how we traveled from one island to another? That's right! More flying!! great. Needless to say, since I wasn't close to being recovered yet I ended up getting sick (several times) again, and once again my first day in a new city was spent in a bed.
But that was last week.
We are in Pontianak to set up for a large Friendship Festival that my boss/pastor from Canada, Peter Youngren is organizing. So from Sunday until the 28th we will be postering the city and helping with publicity for the event. The goal is for thousands of people to come and hear of God's undiscriminating love. PY has done huge festivals all over the world, this is the 23rd Indonesian city he's done a festival in- it's really neat to get to be involved. I will post lots of pictures afterwards so you can see the magnitude of the event, and I will have lots of stories to share afterwards as well.
I think every now and again, if we are doing consistant things, I will give you an idea of a typical day so you can see what we are doing. So here is a typical day now:
Get up, eat, do various getting ready things.
Free time
Make glue (flour, sugar, and water)
Plaster thousands of posters on any inch of city that's available (I will take a picture of an example once it's all done)Sleep.
Of course there are mundane things going on inbetween, but that is the gist.
I'm going to write more in a second post to break things up a bit.

First Post!
The ten day countdown until Indonesia begins! I thought it was time to get this thing up and running. Please be patient until I find a template that doesn't hurt the eyes.
Within the week there will be a post worth reading here...I promise.
