Of Food:
Let's see, what have I eaten so far? An apple, Pizza Hut, KFC, French Fries.... I love Indonesian food!! Oh and Steve has had McDonalds.
Don't worry, we are eating actual Indonesian food too....rice and noodles. There is more to it than that but I can't always identify everything I'm eating (and sometimes I'm afraid to know). Nothing too spicy yet, which my digestive system is very thankful for.
Of People:
Very nice!! Super friendly. Of course it helps that we stand out like sore thumbs. It is very common to hear: "Hey Mister! How are you? What is your name? I am ___!" Or "Hey Miss!!" That is all the english a lot of people know, but they love using it. Everyone gets a kick out of how tall Steve is. The funniest so far has been one man on a motorcycle who yelled as he was driving by. "Hello Mister!! How are youuuuuuu?" ...yesterday someone said to me, "Hello Miss.... Britney Spears". I don't know what to make of that.
Of Media:
Ladies, you know how we are always going for the golden glow? That nice, dark, tanned skin? You wouldn't believe all the skin-whitening products they have here! I have seen such funny commercials about Indonesian women wanting a guy, and then finally having him pursue her, once her skin lightened 5-7 shades. I forget all the names but Pond's has a lot of them. "Flawless White" is the only one I remember right now. And they have skin tones -we- are trying to get. I think they would have heart attacks if they saw how we treat our "flawless" complexions. (much like I am shocked at how they treat theirs!)
Of Music:
Some girls were listening to a really popular Indonesian song yesterday, let me try to think of the words... oh yes: "There's going to be one less lonely girl."
Indonesia has Beiber Fever. Justin Beiber that is. Tsk.
If you have any questions let me know!!! Also tell me what's going in in Canada!! Don't be an email or facebook stranger. I don't want to have to do 9 months of social catch-up when I get back.
And if you haven't yet, join our facebook group: Steve and Emily Boss in Indonesia
